Life Span of a heater

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had my heater for 3 years and it stills looks new. Well kind of new. :Pikachu:

catfish decided to bite through my heater once. Note: Buy heater with thicker glass!!

what happened to the cat? my heaters are way over 10yrs and work great, ive had to take a few apart and clean off the metal connector pieces that touch when you turn the temp gauge(dont know how else to put it:ROFL:)

If your heater is not that old then why not try and warranty it?

I have had my ebo for 5 years with no problems. If you are going to replace it then buy an ebo. The relatively low difference in price will pay for itself in the long run.

I've had heaters last over 10 years and still going. lost one when i broke the glass, which was my fault, otherwise never had a problem...

Ebo-Jager heaters should easily last 10 years.
A slightly less $ alternative is the Tronic Heater brand, I have had one for only 3 years, but it has thicker glass than most of the cheaper heaters, very important when keeping boisterous cichlids :grinyes:

Okay. Let's rate heaters, by personal preference and individual life experience, by make and model. Since I am a renewed tropical fish hobbist, I now have several Ebo's that are +two years old and working fine. I have one WON (ha-ha) that is very accurate as well. I see other heaters claimed to be "unbreakable" either in plastic or stainless shrouds, but always involve additional wiring with thermo-couples that create unwanted clutter\.

You folks tell me. What brand of heater do you feel is best and why?

Kev
