Hi,
I'm about to get payara and when I read this informations, my mind is confused:
"Sometimes Payara also refuse to feed and it seems that once they reach about 12 inches they mysteriously die."
and
"The Payara generally seem to survive for only six months to a year, though there are a reports of a few having survived up to two years."

Are they true?
The owner of the payara has feeding the fish for 3 months. Does it means (maybe) 3 months left to live?
Please help...
Thanks...

The one that grows 12 inches is the scomb I believe ,they usually die once they hit 3 months!no one knows why but maybe it's the life span? People say its food and etc but Goodluck ,payara armatus are different they grow larger and live longer so make sure you get a armatus

damn! That is an Armatus!! They are pretty rare and very expensive in North America! Goodluck!

They are very strong and hardy so don't worry about it dying on you with proper care.

:) Thank you very much. They are rare and expensive in here too...
And i'm wondering about head injuries, I read something about it in mfk. I fed piranhas before and i know when they are panic they may hit strongly anywhere. When it comes to payara, I understood that their skull is not strong enough to withstand such a strong impact or in my opinion because of their long sabretooth when they hit strongly anywhere, this teeth may harm his skull.
Does it happens quite often? and What can I do to prevent this?
Any idea would help...
Thaks...

A large tank with current would be great. Just don't have large fish that can scare the armatus.

Thank you very much..
But i've just talked to importer and i realised that the fish isn't an armatus... So i canceled the deal.

really? the pics look like an armatus.. A full tank shot would confirm
