What is the average lifespan for a common pleco? Currently have a 9 year old and was wondering how much longer this guy can live

I would say 15 to 20 years.

I am unsure myself, but when I bought my 365 gallon it came with a 21" common pleco and the guy said he was 18 years old at the time, this was back in last october and the pleco is still alive and doing very well.

depends on care...

it can last from 1 minute to 10+ years...

(1 minute is a joke, but highly possible since a freak accident or a pop heater can cause instinct death to fish)

But yes.. Pleco life span can last a good while.
