life time companion compatability with dats

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've notice Giant Gouramy kinda bully datnoids. I've had a gray grow up to be about 13" and now have a 12" Albino red eye which kinda bullies my four 10"-12" Indos. Just something to think about unless others can chime in here of having long term success with the large GG and Datnoid blend.

Thanks for the insight Vancouver. I may need to look into their compatability a bit more.

Upon speaking with my Lfs they suggested maybe some archer fish, but I thought they were more of a brackish species.

Common archers are brackish yes but there is a freshwater variant. Hard to find and a lot more money but they look good

no wonder they suggested archers ha ha. I'll have to determine which ones they have when they get more in. My guess would be the ones they get are the common ones since they sell them for $20.

I think burmese archers are pure fresh. But as said, hard to find, and therefore kinda pricey. An albino clown knife would be a nice centerpice but they are, most of the time inactive. But large ones are really beautiful. I don't know back there in the US, but here in asia they are quite common nowadays. With juvies priced at around $50, should be worth it IMO.

Giant gouramis is a NO for datnoids from my experience. I had to give my pink GG away after having her 6-7 months. Flag tails, tinfoil barbs and bala sharks are good tank mates. The IT's and CL's grow very slow so you should consider that when choosing their mates. I currently have a shoal of 6x bala's and a leporinus with my two 11"-12" IT's. Let us know what you decide on.

Keeping it SE Asian,
, tinfoil barbs and bala sharks are good tank mates. The IT's and CL's grow very slow so you should consider that when choosing their mates. .

You may also consider an eel. I have a fire eel in my SE Asian tank (with 20 clow loaches and a RTG Aro) and they´re good. In the future the Aro will be moved to a bigger tank and replaced by 3-5 bala sharks

Well looks like my lfs only gets the common archers so that will be a no go,eventhough they swear that adults don't need brackish water. So for right now the bala sharks are looking like a front runner. I just wish we could get Asian arowanas in the US because that would have been perfect.
