I've heard 20 years for a common pleco but I wonder if anyone has actually achieved this. For me it's been 8-9 years.

Don't know how accurate this is. Also most wild fish have much shorter life expectancy than aquarium fish, I know wild ca cichlids is 7 to 10 years compared with 12 to 15 for aquarium ones.

What have you been feeding yours? I'd think on all algae diet it should live normally 20+ years but it'd be nice to see concrete data.
I've been feeding 3 out of my 30 rescue adult 1'-1.5' common pleco mostly catfish farm pellets 40% protein (lazy I am!) and they didn't last long at all - maybe 1-2 years. Not too surprising albeit one was pretty old I know while another was harassed by a purple labeo 24/7. The third one is young, ~6" and have been doing much better, still I started including algae disks but not enough time has passed yet for me to see a difference yet.
BTW, surely there will be a distribution curve, perhaps somewhat bell-shaped, if one collects lots of data, which may look like simply scatter with fewer data. This is normal just like in any statistics study and must be expected.
When I was a little kid I bought a giant gourami and put it in our back yard pond cement 3x3 meters square. It's lived close to 30 years (passed away over 10 years ago by old age), it's huge that I usually joke to my young nephews and nieces that if they are bad behave I'll feed them to the fish LOL...It's worked all the time 
I would check the age of a few of these. A few standout as being a little high. Musky and pike would be 2 for sure
Usually captive fish have shorter life spans as well, any link on this captive pike?
