Lifting The Ban On Snakeheads In The U.S.A.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hybrids and snakeheads are two totally different matters......

im gona start a petition to ban all fish species that are not reproducible in aquaria.

It will never happen, petitions and protests and all will be a waste of time. This is a fish with the potential to destroy ecosystems. I haven't seen the movie Bully, but I'm willing to bet that they weren't talking about the potential to destroy an ecosystem or eradicate a species. The snakehead could have that power. So far, it appears that the snakehead doesn't have that power, but the bottom line is that we don't know yet. We need more information.

The bottom line is that they were legal at some point but someone had to go and get greedy and release them and cause a bunch of ruckus. This is why we can't have nice things, someone always pushes it too far and then things get taken away.

are snakeheads edible? maybe a good food source.

Channa argus (Northern Snakehead) are actually considered a delicacy. They're quite good to eat if you like fish, it's a firm white meat. They were put in the Potomac River, MD, by folks from Asia to try and grow them to eat and sell. Clearly they took hold and are now everywhere.

Snakeheads are also used in Eastern Medicine practices. The ones released in Crofton Pond, MD, were originally bought by a gentleman who was trying non-traditional healing practices for his ailing wife. It is said that if you place a snakehead in a room with an ailing person, the snakehead can absorb the sickness and make that person healthy again. This is a belief that stems from the snakehead's ability to heal rather quickly from wounds. This little paragraph about the healing is a brief generalization, it is by no means fact or complete.

Are you sick krichardson? We have a right to buy what we want when we want.

Oh yeah?...Try telling that to F&W after they have caught you with a snakehead that you caught or purchased.
