^ I'm tempted myself to try this light, but been reading reviews that the only way to turn and operate the light is using the remote, and that the remote tends to crap out quite easily... 2nd problem is that they don't seem to last longer than a year before the light itself dies out... so would be interesting to hear your experiences if you get one yourself...

Coz the closest light fixture thats similar and i can buy in an LFS cost about 4-5x the price of the finnex

Hello; A few months ago I found a GE LED worklight on the discount shelf at a local Walmart. It is a 4 foot contained unit much like a shop light. It was marked down from $65.00 to about $25.00. It is rated at 1900 lumens at 4000K (cool white)
While it was initially meant to replace an old shop light, I stuck it on a 55 gallon to see how it might do. The 55 gallon is planted fairly densely. After about five months the plants are doing fine. I will try to get some pictures and post them.

An interesting side note being that about a year or so ago I converted the original light fixture for that tank from two 18 inch fluorescent tubes to four LED screw in bulbs by getting some standard light fixture bases. Those screw in LED bulbs had worked well at growing plants.

Point being that there are some relatively less expensive lighting options than the commercial specific lights for aquariums. I am and have been a DIY type around my tanks for a long time both to save money and at times stuff I needed was just not available 30 to 50 years ago. The nice thing about the GE worklight being that I simply placed it on top of the existing hood of my 55 gallon tank. Took all of ten minutes to remove the old units and place this unit on the tank.
