light underneath instead??

I recall a couple of threads on lighting from the bottom, I'm not sure if it was on this forum or another. If I recall correctly, the posted setups looked nice.

i think it can't be good for the fish... .cuz the sun is never underneath them in the wild..
and unless the tank is placed really high where u can't see the bottom of the tank, i wouldn't know why you would put the light on the bottom because it would hurt ur eye when u look down at the tank and see the light...

*although some people claim that NAN light shined from bottom up can prevent dropeye in aros...

I would think it wouldnt look as good, as most of my fish have their decorative scales/colors on the top side, so under lighting wouldnt make it stand out. Also I think it would blind me.

Hmm, interesting. I never would have thought of that but I would like to see what it looks like.

Interesting idea. I think it would look good if the tank were up higher than eye level. They sell those volcano things for inside tanks that shine led lights upward, but that is strictly ornamental. Reading this made me think of a custom tank/aquarium builder I found on Craigslist who makes his tanks and cabinets to light up with led lights from all angles. Here is a link to his Craigslist ad with pics of the tanks- http://newjersey.craigslist.org/pet/2051870084.html They are pretty cool looking, but I would love to see it with some white leds over the tank area.

Wow, I like that.

It would seriously mess up their surface orientation, because they would be getting 2 different signals for "up"... the signal of the "real up", AKA the surface, and the false "up", where the light is coming from. You could put red lights on the bottom though, since fish can't pick up red light. I don't know why you'd want to though.
