Lighting a 14g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If I am correct-

The florescent hood that comes with the 14G won't appropriately house the 26W spiral CFLS. I use the mini compacts for my 10G shrimp tank... it's doing splendid! You can go with two 6500K daylight bulbs for a 24" shoplight...Those will work fine also.

But if you would like more wattage per gallon.. you can also go with an uglier option of getting a couple of the basking lights and screw in the 26W spiral CFLS into there.. : ]

I've explored every option for lighting.. Lol. Trust me! I've found the spiral CFLS work the best! and are the cheapest!

What plants would be good under that lighting. it's my first planted tank and it's on my "bar" between my kitchen and living room so it needs to look good from all directions. (so no front middle back aquascaping)

It's got 3 bleeding heart tetras, 3 longfin black tetras, and 6 spotted cory cats

Well in my 10g-

hornwort
lilies (the plant bulbs you can get at walmart)
anubias
java fern
java moss
cambomba carolina
various crypts
umm.. i also think i've got some sort of hygro in there(stem plants). I'm not too good with scientific names!

You should try "dirting" the tank. You take top soil and place it as a plant substrate..covering the soil with gravel! It's diana's "Walstad" method!
