Lighting / Auto-timers / Acclimating / JUMPERS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i wanna do this tank again! It was my 1st Colorado tank when I just moved to the Springs then moved to Denver right after i put a leporinus fasciatus in.. was like 12" got it from Tropical Treasures // feel bad i was supposed to do the art work on their entrance door. Awesome shop.

Just put in auto timers for lighting in fish room and came home same night to find 1 of my new fish on the floor... Had these guys before and never known to jump but it did this time..! If a fish gets spooked it'll flip out like normal no matter what kind of fish pretty much.. just a little annoyed though that after trying to acclimate the fish for few days, getting new timers on lights would make him jump *through the filter gap like not even a few inches... dang.

I have my timer set to come on at 1pm. Off at midnight. Tank is dark during the morning, but ambient light from the room keeps them from being spooked when the hood light comes on.
I tried a moon lamp for salt aquarium but didn't like it much.

Different kind of fish seem to react differently to lights going on and off. I've found that my cichlids, clown loaches, catfish and tetras take changes of light in their stride - in fact they've learned that lights going on in the morning is like the dinner bell sounding.

But I've got a school of giant danios that go nuts every time the lights are turned on and off. I've got a real tight lid on that tank to minimise noise, so they just bounce off it when they jump.

that was just badluck on me. i also have 3 maybe 4 diffferent timers running now in my fish room & all is well. that instance the fish was only here 3 days not even & while he was trying to get acclimated it was my bad for just trying to do too much i guess. in that tank from mthe earlier post i'm using it now for new community style:

- 1 GG
- 1 zacco
- 1 discus
- 1 african scat
-1 myleus schomberkii
- 2 yelloy fin barb
- 1 spanner t barb
- 1 chalceus (not the tucan kind)
- 1 flagtail fei feng

adding 1 loach + 1 or 2 more discus + archerfish

in this 65g running 2 hang-on filters + a canister + 1 powerhead + plenty oxygen + 15g water change every night or other AM looking pretty okay. it'll be nice when the fins start to grow up.
baby scat & thin bar hiding these two are barely an inch but feed just as savage as the rest of these guys. usually see them before lights switch on in the AM schooling w/ everyone else peacefully.
