lighting for a 300 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got (2) 4 Foot shop lights in my canopy for my 300 and it lights it up just perfectly.

Each shop light has (2) 6500k 32 watt T-8 bulbs.

During most of the day though the shops are off and (6) 9 watt fluorescent puck lights do the job for some very cool subdued lighting.

i'd go for two dual 36" T5 HO fixtures.

I am thinking of trying metal halides on my freshwater tanks. They do 70 watt spotlights for shops cause the say it brings the colours out better than fluor's, which should be good for fish... You can get them cheap of shopfitters too. Just a thought.

which lighting would be good for a rtg arowana...and john when u mean 2 dual 48 t5, do you mean one fixture with 2 bulbs in there or 2 fixtures with 4 bulbs?

each 48 inch fixture has two bulbs use two fixtures total of 4 bulbs altogether

i like 6700K but you could also try one 6700K and a bluer bulb in each fixture

I went with SINGLE bulb, 2 four foot lights, so far the tank is lite up even and enough light but not bright. Many fish dont like bright, makes them more skittish I heard. Total 64 watts, 32 each bulb. Also I heard you need to use darkish gravel not white for improved fish colors.

did you go w/ just regular T12 or T5 HO or what and what K bulb?

dark substrate makes more of a contrast and makes the fish look darker (and better IMO)

It just says all glass aquarium, aquarium lamp 32 watt, the thin four foot bulbs
