lighting for a 300 gallon

I am thinking 3-4 X 250 halides, se with the luminmax II pendants those will give you 30" of coverage so 3 should cover 2.5' X 7.5'

That was the route I was thinking too. I am getting a 300 (8'2'30") and really want MH lights for the look of them. I lost my 110 reef in Katrina and am not going back salt for a while.
I have Lumn 3 reflectors and 400w MH ballast....if I had them 18" off the water and there was glass covers on the tank would it be to crazy bright and cause a massive greenout?
What if I use a higher K bulb like the 15k's to lessin the output of the bulb?
Would 250's still be too much?
What K MH bulb is best for FW fish like P.bass and black arros.
