Lighting for a Big tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The marineland in tank LEDs are sweet too. You can line the whole front rim with them and never see anything on top of the tank. They're only like 20$, although you'd need a few.

ahh that could work, but I need some really good light so that the whole tank is properly illuminated

what are you looking to do exactly? are you gonna have a planted tank? if not then you probably dont need as much light as you think. i have a 6x2x2 tank and all i have is 2 18" led strips. they are aquaFX lights, you can program them with all different colours and on/off times, but really i only use the normal, blue and nighttime settings. They dont make them anymore i dont think, but the point im making is alot of the fish you have would likely prefer subdued lighting. mine isnt massively bright and it allows shadowed areas while still being light enough to enjoy viewing. i doubt id manage any but the easiest plants, but i have plastic due to barbs eating anything real. I know arcadia do led tubes for around 80 each and depending on the look you want, 2 of them may suffice. There are a plethora of led strips available on ebay shipped in from hong kong etc. i cant speak for the brightness or the longevity, but the price is right. what is your budget for lights, if you dont mind me asking?

Not very good pictures and i dont know why the second one came out twice, but thats mine with 2 of the strips form the second pic

wow there great! I guess your right about amount of lighting

im actually gutted they dont do them anymore. i dont know if they are discontinued or just a stock shortage, but i cant find them anywhere. if mine ever go wrong i dont know what ill do cus if they do i dont know what ill do. ink that a lower id like to think that a lower light level will help limit algae too.
