Lighting for Festae tank, and Midevil tank

cacichlids I seen on another thread someone recommended dark substrate for Festae, but you could be right. I need to look into it further. When I read about their biotope it stated they lived in dark earthy colors to almost back colored ground cover.

I agree that they are changing so much mostly because they are fry and they are using it as an escape/hiding reaction. They will try to closely resemble nearby environment to stay hidden from predators (me I guess...lol). Pale fish could sometimes mean stessed and afraid, as well as dark fish could be stressed and trying to boast color. Ive seen a lot of fish in fish stores either washed out or "blacked out". I WILL THOUGH take what you said into account and think about what sand color I want and look up as much info as I can regarding what the fish might like / look best on.

10k PLUS 50/50, you sir, are a genius! =P

Those are nice festae! Got mine off of Umbeeking and the parents looked STUNNING! I guess Umbeeking's female use to be FreshWaterPredator's.

Jc1119 the Midevil is in a solid black tank. Black back, sand, pot. HE LOVES IT AND MAKES HIS COLORS GREAT! Other than the light being total crap! He has no plants in with him. The plants are in the festae fry tank. He wont let anything in his tank may it be fish, plant, human, plastic, or what-have-you. Anything not black he bashed into the walls even non-black decorations. I think he somehow thinks it doesnt "match" or "fit in". or maybe it grabs his attention because it "stands-out". His tank has a single bulb 1980's set up. might try the aqua-glo and see how his color looks. I'm just worried about how dim people say it is being the only light in there.

LOL and i know it wont give them more color, I just thought the black looked more natural for them at that size. But I guess which ever they choose to be Black or White they are being what shade they choose. I'm lucky they are eagerly feeding, not afraid of me, all healthy, and a two 2" "males" are already spangling.
