Lighting moonlight LED

ya ...if you hook up a LED rated for 12v dc it will fry in just one second!! and smoke..ive seen it lol..definetley wanna add in some resistors

If you want to go cheap or lazy, you can run a 12v dc car set up LED off a 9 volt battery for quite some time. I had 4 single LEDs pigtailed about a foot apart and then running to a 9 volt for about 2 months. When you buy a car LED setup they often have the "try me" button rigged up with a 9 volt that has a harness clipped to it. just reuse that harness and all you have to do each night is plug the 9 volt on and you're done.

Since I got even lazier than that now (believe it or not, it is possible) I have an extension cord plugged into my power strip now, with a short extension cord plugged into it to cover both sides of the tank. The first extension cord runs up the back of the tank on the right side and into the canopy and is secured with zip ties to the top inside of the canopy (stays dry). I have a light sensor LED nightlight plugged in there facing down to light the right side of the tank, and a short extension cord plugged in and running across the top of the inside canopy to the left side of the tank. Another light sensored LED nightlight is plugged in on the left side outlet facing down. They go off when my daytime light comes on and on when it turns off. Lazy factor is huge now - the daytime light is on a programmable timer as well. Between the two LED nightlights there is enough "moonlight" for me. I guess you could run more if you wanted though.

Cost breakdown - same cost for a couple zipties to hold wires up in canopy

Car setup (when I ran it) -- $4 spool of wire, $3 heat shrink for wire, $9 pack of 3 LED lights, $0 battery plug, $1 9 volt battery (changed every 2 1/2 months)

House setup - $4.50 2 pack of LED night lights, $5.50 two 6 foot extension cords, pennies a year to run lights
