Bio bacteria inhabit everthing in your tank. Not just your filters. That is why you can have a bio crash when you switch substrates. Because you remove so much of it. If it was only in your filters then everytime you changed the media you would have to cycle again. This is also why it is harder to cycle a bare bottom tank. or it takes longer.------------------if you are not showing any nitrite after 2 months then something is wrong. if it were me i would get some seed material from a established tank. Like some gravel or a filter pad and put that in your tank to speed things up. IF you do not have another tank to take from any good lfs will give or sell you some of there used media for the purpose.
