right now, i have a 10,000k/460nm compact fl. bulb on my african cichlid aquarium. (pictured below) i was thinking about going with maybe a full actinic, but i noticed there are two diff types. there's an actinic 420nm and an actinic 460nm. can someone tell me what the difference is and/or if i should just stick with what i have?

Uhhh... the difference is a 420nm is a 420nm, and a 460nm is a 460nm! LOL!!! :grinyes: Just kidding. Sorry i don't know either but you have a really nice set up.

Your doing a fine job... stick with what you got

I don't think it would make much diff...

well i've thought about doing it so i can bring out alot of the blues in my fish. and because i thought it would give it that "bottom of the lake" feel to it. btw, i'm the "fish guy" at my LFS so all of my tanks are nicely decorated like mine at home. not only because with the agression, they need their hideouts, but because presentation is everything right? :naughty: yea, its a pain to get the fish out, but i get more people saying "ya'lls tanks look great!" thank anything. haha. sorry, i just had to brag on myself for a moment. :grinyes:

Im not an expert on this by any means, and am still looking to purchase my first lighting system myself....BUT....I have read that for FRESHWATER you are to use 6700k bulbs, and the 10k and actinic bulbs are reserved for MARINE. This probably does not answer your question at all, but figured I could at least comment.

Nice tank too btw!

According to my calculations, I'm coming up with about 40nm.
I've done the calculations several times, so I think its right.
