Lighting- The Best and The Worse

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
3300k CFL lights are the worst (I get them for free at work). Cyano and other algaes love em, unfortunately nothing else does.

Best, T5 TEK lighting. I used to have some, but I sold them when I "got' into SW and now I can't afford them again. If you want to shell out like $700 they're the way to go. The high efficiency parabolic reflectors are so efficient they reflect like 99% of light.

I use the energy efficiency curly bulbs in my tanks with regular light sockets. Good on energy, provide bright light, and fairly cheap. They aren't especially good for plants but they do the trick of providing light for the fish. Another cheap option is to buy kitchen lighting units and plop em on the tank.

i got what they call marine glo blubs in my RBP tank they glo a blue color my Ps love them they are not as harsh white as the regular lights that come with the strips i bought they do thou wash out the color and make my white gravel look blue but i am just wating to get my second set of striplights so i have one set with blue bulbs and one with white ( for when ppl are over) so it runs down to what u want your tank to look like and what your fish like in the end you dont' know till you try

I got the Nova T5 Extreme. Its real good quality and it only costs me $99 for a 48" light. It comes with two T5 bulbs, I got the saltwater. See my threads for pics of it on my tank. I got it from here...

selling them when they are perfect for saltwater is just :screwy: sps and lps and all other corals will grow under T5HO
