OK, here's a thousand more for ya:

I'm just gonna add to the post......

What would be a good light to bring out the red in a fish? I've got several different kind of geophagus with red hughes and some blue color too.

I think I have PowerGlo on most of my tanks now with just a standard single 48" light strip that came with the tank. I noticed a huge difference between the factory installed and the PowerGlo but they don't pickup the red colors that well.

Titans,
Again, colormax. I have an albino red tail as many planters do, and it is the highlight of the tank. I know, I'm being a little biast but I spent alot of money on bulbs and lighting system to see what was best in preparation for my "Phase 3" tank. Do you know the best I have seen yet? A 48" Coralife Pro HQI running 250w 10,000k metal halides (x2) with two 96w Colormax PC bulbs on a 125 gallon tank. Hands down that was the most awesome setup I have ever seen. You have never seen fresh water like this before in your life! But..., that setup will set you back like $700 (just for the light).

48" Colormax bulbs are $8.99 at Dr. Foster & Smith (They are backordered at the moment).
Obviously these are not the high output bulbs.

I'm a noob when it comes to lights. will the colormax fit in a standard aquarium light. All of my lights are All Glass Aquariums brand.

In addition to making your fish look better, does lighting help the health of your fish? If so, in what ways? I'm setting up a 75 that won't have any plants with high light demands but would like my fish to be as healthy as possible.

Fish just seem to be healthier under daylight but you won't have to be intense if you're not looking to go planted or want the extreeme frouresence. Perhaps it has to do with the same reason people do better in sunlight? Vitamin process? Anyway, why not plant? There are just so many benefits of planting. Even just a little with plants that are omnivorious or herbovorious safe, can make a big difference. It reproduces the natural enviroment that all fish evolve in. Nature, it is the best teacher!

Color temp has little to do with the lighting of a tank, it mostly has to do with the color of the light, and the needs of specific plants/corals. Colormax is one of the bulbs I dislike most. They do not provide good color IMO, and distort the colors of the fish themselves. Colormax is not made in HO T5, nor in any high lighting option. Compact fluorescent should not be compared to HO T5 as the lux ratings are completely different. The thing to look at when it comes to bulbs, is the total lumens put out. This can be done in a number of ways. For compact fluorescent bulbs, the average lux rating is 79.4, where with HO T5 48" Life glo 2 bulbs it is 422. A CF bulb is 65W putting them in at 5161 lumens. A HO T5 Life glo 2 48" bulb is 54W, putting them in at 22788 lumens. Lumen is the amount of light physically output by a light source.

Of course it distorts color, thats the point. Sunlight is sunlight is sunlight. But change the temperature and everything changes. If this person wanted natural, they wouldn't be running black gravel and background... But, this bulb is designed to be natural. It simulates an overcast day.

A wide-range of wavelengths make the ColorMax an excellent source for enhancing the natural beauty of your freshwater fish and plants. This full-spectrum bulb is loaded with color-enhancing phosphors to magnify color at wavelengths from 350 to 750 nanometers.

There aren't alot of planted guys running these bulbs as they reduce usable light by 50%. But if your not planting... what difference does it make??

Is this person running HO, VHO or HQI? Other than that, it is availible in every other type of bulb used in aquariums.
