Would t8's work or are t5's better? I do not want actinic if I am correct. What spectrum or spectrums do I want? Also if the bulbs are about 4-5 feet about the pond would a 4' light cover 8' pond from side to side or should I go with a longer bulb?

t5s are a lot better. no actinic. day light bulb. could put 2 4 footers side by side for 8 feet.
if you went with 3 4' 6 or 8 tube t5ho fixtures and space them right one on each end and one in the middle and kept the plants on the end you would be fine.....the one in middle would be for viewing only.... this would also maximize your space in the pond....
