I was just curious on how offten you leave your tank lights on...Is it bad to have my fishes with the light off all day untill i get home??

Mine get about 11-12 hours a day. I put them on a timer so I don't have to worry about turning the lights off and on...

i put mine of timers, 8-10 hour intervals.

haveing lights off all day can't hurt, but i prefer to have some natural cycle for my tanks.

all my lights are now on timers, either for 12 or 10 hrs a day. you can find nice inexpensive ones at big lots and similar places. I paid $20 plus for one at the LFS but got 2 for $5 at Big Lots. just be sure to get ones with the proper outlet

Yeah I got mine at Walmart for about $6. I like it cause it can set multiple on/offs per day as many times as I want. They even have some fancier ones that have different settings for different days of the week.

Timers for your lighting is a must!!

just set the timer so it comes on later and is on till about the time you go to bed etc...

I don't have mine on much.. 6 hours, no plants so I don't think I worry alot about that

I turn on the lights in the morning 90% of the time and turn off the lights before I go to bed. There are days where I just feel like leaving the lights off, but I open the blinds for some natural light to reach the tank from time to time.

If you have no plants, just leave them Off until you want to look at the tank. Save your bulb and keeps algae away.
