So I have decided to stop waiting for a good used 300 wide and just get a new one from glasscages.com but I am at a loss for what I actually need for lighting. I have been looking at T5 setups on amazon but I am not sure what I actually need. I am not wanting to spend more than about 200 on lights if I dont have to and would love to actually spend less if possible. My goals for the tank are mostly fish but I would like to have a few anubis or something embedded in the drift wood (dont really need a lot of plant growth just a little bit)

Anyways tank is 96x30x25, anybody have any ideas?

I have the same tank (I highly suggest getting the starphire glass, worth every penny) and I'm using 3 24" Truelumen strips from Current USA. It might run closer to $400 for the whole setup, since you have to buy the power adapter separately.

With LED you're going to use significantly less electricity than T5 so that's something to consider when the power bill comes.

Not to mention you'll never have to replace a bulb ever again with LED. I'm planning a large tank build too and am wanting to go with LED.

Thinking about LED as well, how well does it light up your tank?

It's perfect, I wouldn't use anything else.

The shimmering effect is great, and it's bright enough. Probably wouldn't grow many plants, but I like the shadowy sort of look. This fts sucks because its from my phone (the sand washed out makes it look brighter than it is), but you can see it's plenty bright. Uses 48 watts total... I like cutting my electric bill since I'm running 2 pumps, 500w heater, UV and a huge air pump.

Any good option for LED in the 200-300 range?

I went with Current because I like their quality and scalability, but there is other options out there in that price range. Do some searching, maybe someone will post other options. I know I've seen people use LED floodlights or big squares, both from ebay....
