The shop light I'm refuring to has one of the best reflectors I've ever seen. I'd still use the plastic tubes over the bulbs for safety but if your hanging it 6" above the tank then don't bother with the water proofing.

you can go to home depot and get some garage lights. not some cheapo stuff that humms like crazy


FYI its the magnetic ballast that is making the humming noises for the bulbs, if you get an electronic ballast it will be instant on and no humming. Now when I say instant on, it means when you turn the switch on it will not flicker, however it will still take a minute or so for the gasses to heat up before the bulb become its full brightness.
