hi guys once again im moving my tank this (time to its forever home.)
we have decided to create a look threw from kitchen to living room were there is a breakfast bar backing on to kitchen sink / dishwasher area "that we never use".
this time around i want to create a misting / rain effect for filter exhaust.
using 2 fx5's i have a sump for tank as well but thats not going to be modified.
I need help with tubing size i should use and diameter of holes you think would work best for effect im after. sorry for shoddy drawing im no pro:)

I have 2 inches to attach the exhaust ring under the aquarium rim. I guess my main concern is having the 2 filters connected to this ring is there any chance one could be pushing force down to the other. and if so is there a way to not have this happen?..
thanks for time.

as long as half the holes will drain the water fast enough one will not over power the other. Plus i think they would just force water out faster through the holes in the pipe.

1.25" pipe would handle 937 GPH and the FX5 claims 924 so that size pipe should work. As for size of the holes, if you want a rain type effect i would maybe make a grid out of the pipe and make very small holes so that the water flow through all of them evenly and just size them up if you need. But i would think more little holes would do what you want.

Keep in mind that the 937gph number comes from gravitational flow. When pressure is involved, such as the push from the FX5 pump, you will not need as large of a diameter of PVC. I would match the size of the FX5 return lines or maybe go just a bit bigger. Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 3/4".

am thinking since im gonna run a sump on this as well should i make up a connection for the fx5's to draw from sump an return overhead?. trying to minimize having any visual piping /heaters all that stuff.

180 gallon, for my fahaka..
* no such thing as to0 much filtration. *
hoping to have this project done as soon as girlfriend goes to mexico. first week of new years.
she dosent know I got a new tank for us yet lol.

I think the pumps would work a little harder on the FX5 since there isn't the help from gravity feeding them, but probably not enough to worry about. Just make sure the over flow on the tank is rated for two XF5's and what ever pump you have on the sump, or are you using the FX5 for a sump pump?

I think the FX5 actually putts out a litte over half wwhat it is rated for when filled with media so you can go light on the over flow a little.

Can't wait to see some real pictures, sounds like a cool effect, and great for circulation.

ya i think the plan at this point is to use the fx5's for pump. will take some playing around with sump but hopefully works.
