lil help please fx5 pros?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What are you wanting to put in the sump? Heater like you said, but more biofilter media? cause you could use inline heaters if that is all you are really wanting to use a sump for.

Sumps are great for increasing overall volume, just wondering if you really need to do all the work for a sump if you have two FX5's

* i suppose on the issue of evaportion a sump could help, assuming you don't let it run dry. Also ave you considered materails around the tank being waterproof or good ventiltion?

yes the sump is for filtration as well as more volume.
my drawing sucks. the tubing will be under the rim of the tank so i dont see evaporation being an issue at all. as it will be maby 0.5 inch from the water itself / under the glass top. i guess that might fubar my rain effect idea but the whole point is for the water to shimmer with no visible hardware.
thanks for all your comments and suggestions.

You may only need one FX5 to get the effect you want. Using two of them would be like inside a carwash.

I did a pipe setup for RUGF with 20mm (about 3/4") diameter with 400 1mm (just larger than 1/36") holes and drive it with eheim pro 2228 at 270 gph. When I tested to see if water would flow from every hole outside the tank, all of them were OK. The flow was coming out as a jet for some distance until it break down into droplets though.

I followed chompers and Redoog concept that total area of small holes is the same as the main pipe.

glass came in today so time to get drilling heres layout i decided on, since im not 100% sure how to include sump and fx5 as pumps for it i will still drill holes for sump till i do get it right.
also i started on new canopy for led panels this is coming along quickly i hope to have the tank drilled and put together bye next friday, wont be till sometime january tho before i figure out the filtration lol.

does this look efficient?
also the glass showed up 30" bye 72" , and 30" x 24" so looking like will be a little bigger then 180 gallon not to sure.

1.25" pipe would handle 937 GPH and the FX5 claims 924 so that size pipe should work
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THE FX5 PUMPS 600 GPH With or Without Media. Its been TESTED

NOT 924 GPH!

And no 924 GPH is NOT without media. 924 GPH is with the pump OFF the canister, mounted on some other piece of equipment with zero restrictions.

Even if it did, why go bigger than the 1" piping that is used?

ooo i thought you were going to put the outlet in the air like the pic lol. smart idea
