I meant girth wise, arn't they bigger/heavyer?

Z

they are a thick cat fish the old clarias.
but limas can get quite chunky.

the walking cat is very bendy, eel like and can turn and
manouver better that the lima, the lima is like a "STIFF" fish .lol...
it would not take the lima long to get to a good size, in your tank
there will not be a lot of room for him, if he darts there will be a risk
of him snapping/braking his nose, a duck-beak catfish is not cool to
look at .lol...... if you are not planning to upgrade then IMO go for a smaller cat........

GOOD LUCK

Oh and as for walking cats aggression mine was a pain to house with other
fish, he would strip them of their fins and scales in the night, that was fish like 8 - 9inch GTs, big oscars and big Jags. Saying that, he was fine with other cats and bottom fish, my old Clarias was 20inches so was a lot bigger that the Cichlids.

I have had a lima for about a year now its grown to about 12in in my 90g tank. I also have two pictus catfish in the tank that are about 3in long. The lima doesnt even bother with them he just hangs on the side of his rock and keeps to himslef surprisingly. When given feeders its a completely different store he is so fast that basically nothing can get out of his way. Very impressive to watch eat. I have tried to ween him off feeders by giving him krill which he loved for about a month but recently stopped eating it and is on to bloodworms. Amazing catfish if you have the room and the right invironment. Recommend buying one if your into larger catfish but not crazy or dont have enough room for a tiger or a redtail

rodder506,try frozen raw shrimp my Lima loves that.Ztrip your Silver Dollar should be fine,Lima's are not overly aggressive predators (as long as they are well fed!!).

I asked the same question when I was in the market for one. The advice I got was at least a 125 for a 1 lima and perhaps 1 maybe 2 Oscar sized fish.
Clarias are more aggressive catfish but don't require the same manoueverability as Limas.

Here is a picture of mine. About 10 inches. Had it 2 plus years in a 125gallon tank. This is a narrow bodied species of shovelnose. This is a slow growing shovelnose. Very active night & day. Does not get along very well with same species. Have no issues with aggression toward other fish in tank. Will eat pellets both floating/sinking. Earthworms(loves them). Shrimp (salad shrimp are a favorite occasional treat) & tilapia strips.upload_2018-11-26_22-40-59.jpeg

Welcome to the MFK!

Thank you for sharing. Glad to see a perfect snout on yours. Sounds like yours may be Sorubim elongatus.

I got 18 of them in a 240 gal and they usually get along fine. Two could often be a bit of a gamble, albeit I have another two in another 240 gal and they do well.

Have you got an ichthyo-chicken laying eggs under the driftwood??

Anyway... may I suggest creating your own thread for your fish so it'd be your thread and you could come back to it with updates on your LSN? People would respond to it better too and you'll get better traffic. It'd be a win-win.
