I would really like to get a pair of Limas for my 240, but dont want to feed them live food all the time. I do breed convict feeders, but of course I couldnt keep those fish alive with the amount that I breed. So what do you guys recommend for training these awesom cats to take pellets? floating sinking?

Also, kind of a side question, are they active durning the day or just hide?

Mine is pretty active when he isn't digesting food. I have never given him any feeders. He only eats frozen market shrimp and krill. He has never showed any interest in any pellets that I feed some other fish.

I feed him about every other day. When he does eat the shrimp, he loads up until his stomach expands to the max. They are very cool, I am glad that I finally bought a lima.

limas are the slowest growing cat bt looks very very cool when large. best part is they stay small compared to other cats. maxing out around 18" or so. when i had mine, it ate pellets just fine. floating, sinking, whatever. it wont starve its self to death, and if it notices everyone else eating it, he'll try it eventually. mine ate everything. i gave it to my friend, but its still alive n growing slow.

Does the shrimp and krill float or sink? Does he search for his food or do you have to try and drop it near him?

Really? I think that mine has grown almost 4 inches in the last 3 months. I figure that he will slow down after 12".

It sinks. I usually throw a couple of pieces in front of him, but he eventually finds more around the tank.

I get my shrimp at Meijer. They have deals every couple of months where you buy 1 bag and get 3 free.

i've noticed limas to be the slowest growing out of all cats. some say that they grow pretty fast but all depends on the individual fish. some peoples limas have grown from 3" to 9" in a few months. while others like me have grown from 3" to 6" in 6 months.

i had mine on hikari carnivore

I have kept over 7 limas, and none of them grow anywhere as slow as my silvertip sharks, channel cats, bullheads, madtoms, ect. I have a new one right now that I got after I got my tsn and he is growing at a similar rate as the tsn. My biggest lima is 13" after having him for 10 months. I got him at less than 3". Here's pics of when I first got him and a few weeks ago!
