Limas do not get that big! In aquarium try 10-12"! You may be thinking of tiger shovel nose, a 40gal breeder imo is fine .

Awe how cute. 10''-12'' really?

OP, you can have a lima for about a year-year in a half. My lima grew to 18'' in a 180gal in till I moved him to the pond and sprouted to 23''. For life, I would do a 6x2.5x2 tank.

RTC 20'', RTC 24'' and Lima just as big.

As soon as I read his post, I thought of you. lol

I agree also that the 36" tank is too small long term for a Sorubim.

There are actually 5 species of fish sold as Sorubim lima. However all of them have the capability of reaching at least 20" to 24" and the largest Michael W. Littmann mentions in his papers is nearly 80 cm SL. Which means over 32" total length.

The five species all sold as Sorubim lima are.

1. Sorubim lima
2. Sorubim elongatus
3. Sorubim trigonocephalus
4. Sorubim cuspicaudis
5. Sorubim maniradii

I have a 22" Sorubim in my 15K. I am not sure of it's species but intend to count its gill rackers and other identifiable traits when it should pass on.

All in all a great genus and a fish well worth keeping.........but please give it an appropriate sized tank.
