Hi,im new here!
I have one question.
Can goldfish stay with lima shovelnose?,i have been reading and lima shovelnose can stay at 12 inch.
I have oranda that can grow up at 12 inch, Shubunkin 18 inch, comet 12 inch but im also worried about my ranchu that only can grow up to 8 inch.
You think that Lima shovelnose can eat all of them or only the ranchu what do you think?
I still don't have the Lima shovel nose.
It's just in case I could buy it to coexist with my goldfish
If it could not be done, you could give another option of catfish more or less large that could coexist with my goldfish.

Welcome! Lima shovelnose (LSN) is an ambush, stealth predator but it's prey is not huge, most usually no more than 1/4 of its own size and usually smaller yet. The rule of thumb is that a tank mates doesn't fit in the LSN mouth, that is the tank mate width x height dimension / cross section (not length) would not fit into the LSN mouth at any point of the LSN and tank mate growing together in one tank.

In general, I think you are safe, unless you get a large LSN, like 8", and small goldfish, like 2", that size disparity is risky. If a goldfish is a healthy 4", I believe it should be safe.

IME roughly half of LSN can grow bigger than 12", up to 18"+ but it would take many years.

Victor would the lower temperature be a concern for the Lima Shovelnose?

Thanks for the welcome!
I am from Spain
Currently I was helping a Spanish forum, but normally I was looking for information in English and many times I have seen that this forum knows a lot and gives me the answer I was looking for.
For this reason, despite the language differences, as I have good English, I have decided to try asking questions at monstersfishkepers.
Thank you very much for the welcome

Thanks to you also for the welcome.

This was another question I had

I have seen that Lima shovelnose has a minimum temperature of 73 Fahrenheit as 23 degrees Celsius, but the temperature of my fish tank is between 19 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius.

One thing I think you should keep an eye out for is whether the slow, somewhat clumsy fancy goldfish are stressed by the high activity, fast swimming, and long barbels of the Lima shovelnose. This is a recommendation often given for pictus catfish but it would apply to more or less any pimelodid with long whiskers and high activity (aka: the vast majority).

I didn't think on that.
What a bummer because the truth for the only thing i wanted a catfish it's for its long barbels which I find super attractive.
Then you do not know any other similar thing
Some catfish that can be better with goldfish
I found other types:columbian shark,auchenoglanis wittei,jaguar catfish,giant bumblebee catfish,two spot mystus,eclipse catfish,ageneiosus lineatus.
I have more but are pimelodus and have a lot of barbels...
Any suggested catfish?

Bummer for sure ?. I know how it feels, I had my heart set on an Asian upside-down catfish for my 2nd 475 liter until I learned it would probably make hors d'oeuvres out of yoyo, zebra and Burmese loaches.

As for the rest of the choices.....

Colombian shark: Not a good choice, they need salt and they're still super active, which would stress slow moving fancies even if the sharks were freshwater.

Giraffe catfish: I know next to nothing about any kind of giraffe catfish but thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter most certainly would. He even made what was apparently a very informative video about them not too long ago. I have not found time to watch it but I'm sure you could find it useful.

Jaguar, giant bumblebee, two spot catfish, eclipse catfish: None would be a very wise choice. They are very active at night which would stress the goldfish a lot, and the last 2 need to be kept in groups, which exacerbates the problem of night-stressed goldfish.

Lineatus catfish: No substantial information on this catfish I could find anywhere.

You could try a featherfin catfish. Can't guarantee there will be no issues, but I know nothing about featherfin catfish that suggests they could be a problem with goldfish.

If you keep your tank with the goldfish in the range you indicated, 19-24 C, then it'd be a bit too cold for a LSN. I'd suggest not going lower than 21 C. If impossible, could still be tried, just not lower than 19 C.

LSN are ambush, stealth predator catfish, they don't swim around much, mostly hover in one place or another. I don't think the goldfish would be bothered.
