Lima shovelnose catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you very much, when I do what I am going to do I will put photos
I certainly think I'll ask around here again.
You know a lot
For now I will wait for my goldfish to grow to a minimum of 10 cm each.
Do you know how much they grow per month?
The ranchu are in 4-5 cm
The oranda in 6-7 cm
The Shubunkin and the comet in 8-9 cm
I Will try to make un the tank a temperature of 21 to 24 celsius. With my equipment to control the temperature

LSN are usually sold at 3" = 7.5 cm, so I don't see a reason to wait for something... but I don't know the rate of growth of ranchu and oranda, nor their max size. The shubunkin and comet I know but they are large enough already and will grow I assume larger than the other fancy goldfish.

One other thing that you may find useful: pothos or mint in the filters wouldn't hurt. Goldfish add more NH3 (and consequently NO2 and NO3) to a heated aquarium than to an unheated one, so those plants will be good to counteract that.

Beneficial bacteria also process more waste and quicker at higher temps.

But plants are great for filtering and a great safety net. There is a price to pay - more maintenance (dead leaves, roots, dead/killed plants, diseased plants) and plants need light, light can mean more algae, which can mean even more cleaning.

For one beloved tank this may be no problem. We at our operations cannot afford it.

I will then add the potos plant to the aquarium to help in the filtration.
I can also put Limnobium laevigatum, Phyllanthus fluitans.
Or some other plant that helps the filtration.
In fact, you have given me the idea to create another theme about plants that help water filtration.
I do weekly water changes and check the parameters so they are always correct.
The filter is a fluval fx4, which will soon be accompanied by an internal filter that I have seen that also moves 2000 l / h
But also as the temperature increases, more waste is generated as you say , so I do not know to do the minimum of 19 degrees for the LSN.
I am with heaters and fans so I can adjust the temperature a lot
In the tank I have two water pumps that moves the water and one oxygenator

Another question I have is that I have seen that channa andrao and channa bleheri endure cold temperatures like a minimum of 18 celsius. Do you think that one of those two could be fine with goldfish?
I say it by size the andrao about 11 cm and the bleheri about 20 cm.
First do you think they would be fine or that the channa would annoy the goldfish and second do you think that especially the bleheri could eat the goldfish?

Can't tell you anything on the Channa spp. They are all illegal in the USA. Can't say I've ever red of such small snakeheads on the MFK. Everything I read involved large ones, unless the 11 cm and 20 cm are the current sizes, not the max sizes.

In general snakeheads are voracious predators, I don't think they could leave any goldfish alone.

Okey thank you a lot for all

I’d not try it. Channa may eat ur or pick on the goldfish bases of what sizes I have already for the goldfish.
