Awesome info thanks trout.
Im kinda thinking of staying away from peacocks due to the females being pretty dull in color from what i've heard, and i would very much like to keep the color high in this tank, but im not sure i would want to do an all male tank. Im not really lookin for anything too big like haps you mentioned got pretty big in some cases. I really wish i could do a mbuna mix, with a couple of male peacocks.

there are a number of smaller haps to consider if you really want a planted tank and you should get more advice about tanganyikan cichlids. some of the tangs look very nice and there are a number of colourful small ones but i don't know much about them.

I will do some lookin into smaller haps and tanganyikans. Im also not dead set on it being a "planted tank" i just like the idea of being able to throw in a couple hardy plants for color and variety, but it wont be a deal breaker if i cant.

cool deal. ill check out that link when i get home later.
