I haven't gotten out crabbing since last month. We're about a two hour drive from Tillamook or Yaquina bays, so it's a bit of a haul. I was going to go the weekend before last, but they predicted 28-35 mph winds with 45 mph gusts - not much fun out in the Zodiac!
We're lucky here in Oregon, our crabbing regulations are a lot more liberal than California or Washington. There is no season - you can crab 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We can keep 12 male Dungeness (5 3/4" min) per day per person plus unlimited number of Red Rock crabs, any size or sex. Licenses are $5.00 a year, up until a few years ago you didn't need a license at all.
Hopefully these loose regulations won't get us in the end. They are always out tallying catches, so hopefully someone is watching crab populations. There are plenty out there right now, so it seems to be working.
