Update -

Decided to add an acrylic glass viewing window. Should add a unique effect to the pond, but im still slightly terrified about cutting and resealing the pond liner.

Acrylic doesn't work well outdoors as it is prone to yellowing from UV. Maybe look for an exterior rated acrylic or consider polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is rarely used in aquaria so research carefully. As far as sealing it to a liner, I have no advice.

Oh yeah...might be able to tell but I changed my mind on the viewing window. Made me to nervous with the pond liner for such a large scale project without testing it on something smaller first.

Well...I have an updated pic of my lovely new pond. Then...I also have a horror story that comes along with it. So ...after having the pond up and running for a couple weeks and testing it on some goldfish(feeders), I finally decided it was time I could put some of my Dempsey's in. All went well! Then, my brother was trying to get rid of a "slightly over-crowded" tank of convicts. I told him I would take some and add them to the pond. Next thing I know, he calls me and says "Hey! Just dropped off the convicts!" When I got home I found he had dumped a completely filthy 40g breeder, gravel and all, with probably at least 40+ convicts ranging in size into the pond!!!! Can anyone guess what happened in the days to follow???

Lol no dance battle...at least it didn't last long if there was one. More like mass mortality! Between the bio-load from his nasty gravel and not acclimating the convicts to the water and having them all die, it seems to have killed just about every fish in the pond(two 6" gold JD's, six 5" BGJD's, and about 20-30 juvenile BGJD's). Although, the plants are doing great now!

Now I need help...after having approximately a hundred fish die and partially decompose in my pond, should I basically drain it and start over to deal with the bio-load before adding fish??..AGAIN

i would say so yes. or just remove as much of the dead debris as you can and let your bio filter adjust to the remaining waste. good for your plants
