Lionfish invasion of the Northern Gulf of Mexico

pretty cool! But no fish should have died :( they should have been moved to a bigger part of the water like a different place not where some people come kill them eek

why so they can invade that area and reproduce MORE?? cmon use some common sense

When I was in Jamaica they were really pushing to make lionfish desirable and most restaurants had it on the menu.

When I was in the Bahamas two years ago I saw a really big dead one that must have washed ashore.

yup, and transplanting them somewhere else (say their native region) will be a waste of money for Florida Fish and Wildlife.
People need to distinguish between fisheries and petkeeping.

i have also heard they are becoming a problem in the Atlantic too but seem to be limited so far on their range they don't seem to like it too cold and are rarely found past the carolinas

im talking like move them out to some where else other wise maybe somewhere in a fishtank lord knows where else they could have gone besides stabbing them with knives

I just wouldn't want to do the one filleting. I have been stung once it isn't fun. Hurts like a...something that hurts alot lol.
So are walleyes, bullheads and crappies. I hate being stabbed by spiny fishes.

Yes they are all the way up to New York but, only during warm months.(they die off once cold weather hits)The Gulf Stream carries them up the coast. They are only currently breeding as far north as the reef off savannah Georgia. Can't think of the name of that marine sanctuary off hand.

Also there are predators that can eat them. Problem is the grouper, reef sharks and eels haven't learned that they are edible since they are foreign to they. I saw were in south Florida and Bahamas they are spearing them and feeding to the predators hoping that overtime they will learn to prey on them and pass it on

I think there is a video clip of a nurse shark actually prey on lionfish that wasn't speared which is a good sign.
