I am so happy to see that there has been such a recent SPIKE in MArine or SW enthusiasm on this site. My question is this... are there any Lionfish that not only can be housed toegther, but will THRIVE together in a tank?? Im talkin bout a 55 to be precise, but Im always down to hear about anything LIONFISH!

Also if you have a Lion or had a Lion in the past, what were the tankmates?!?

u can keep 4 dwarf lions max in a 55 so far i have two dwarfs in a 40, there tank matse are a damsle and a orange/pink tube anemone

With my Mombasse lion I keep 2 banded bamboo sharks, 1 marine betta, 1 Remora, and 1 zebra moray eel.

thats awesome!! any pics of your remora on the sharks?!?! and how well do the betta and the lion interact??? im seriously looking into a betta / lion combo!

I will have some pics up of the Remora and all his friends towards the end of the week.

When I first introduced the lion they had a fight that night and there were a couple small tares on both fish's fins but 4 days later they were all healed up and they never fought again. I have very little rock work for the size tank I have to provide more swimming room for the sharks and they probably fought over territory and the betta had to show the lion who the boss was.

nice... good to know. How many Dendichorus Zebra (spelling) could fit in a 55 with lots of rockwork?? same question with the Fu Manchu? And how long do you think a Radiata could be held in a 55 G?? Also the betta just showed whose the alpha, doesnt nip or harass the lions right?? what other choices would u think could be suitable with a Dwarf Lion??? 55G keep in mind... thanks alot! JOsh

Well Josh I am by no means a lionfish expert but I have owned a 13" Volitan, and now my Mombasse. I personally have never housed lionfish together nor have I ever looked into it so maybe another member could help you out with your first questions. I'm not one of thouse people who try and answer all the questions that I shouldn't be answering because if the proper info isn't given it could mean the death of someones fish.

As for the other questions I can help you there with some good input.

Yes the Marine Betta was only showing who was alpha. It isn't a nippy fish by nature since pretty much any fish that swallows it's food whole is not classed as a nippy fish but I guess she was standing strong to keep her cave. They get along just great now.

Some other good tankmates for the smaller species of lionfish would be tangs, some triggers, dwarf angels, large angels, some wrasses, Puffers, foxface/rabbit fish, Anglers, boxfish, eels, and groupers.

thanks for the tankmate ideas, i want a scribbled rabbit but who knows... WHat would be a good idea for lighting?? i only want like featherdusters and mushrooms.. and soft corals that dont need too much light! c.p.'s?
