Didn' read all the pages but the synspillm seem to be a very peaceful cichlid. Our 12 inch male won't even eat half inch P Salosousi in our 150 community tank. He and his mate hardly even lip lock. It is my belief that sadly a lot of cichlids have been given a bad rap. Either that we as a race is so far out of touch we no longer know what agression is.
I have seen fish chase each other and bluff but seldom do I see them go out to kill each other. Another fish you might want to try in your community tank is a Blood Parrot. They act tough but due to the shape of their face and slow speed I don't think they could really harm another tank mate.
By far the most peaceful cichlid ive kept is my heterospilus. Fish just doesnt bother anyone hes ever shared a tank will (even all community fish were always left alone)

I agree with everything you said but some synpsilum males are crazy. Mine was insanely protective of its school of fish. He was large with a hump and if any of my other cichlids came by them he would defend them.
Blood parrots are mean too but can't do much damage lol
Mikrogeophagus ramirezi, which has probably been said before. Lots of sparring, zero mortality. Really cool fish, they like it when their water is soft, clean and warm, in my experience.
