List of acceptable sand substrates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You know what my first ray loved? eco-complete plant substrate with the amazon black water in it. the problem is that it isnt of the same texture anymore. it used to be very fine, now it is much more coarse. I've had a hell of a time tracking it down.

any other brands of substrate that would be ok? How about onyx sand? Or does that have silica in it? I wanted this to be a thread for beginners to look at so they know exactly what kind of substrate to use if any.

I bought pool filter sand.It is excellent no kick ups and very easy to clean.2-50lb bags 6.00 each.Price can't be beat

I live upstate NY and the pool filer sand is 100% quartz if anyone needs I can get a price on shipping plus a little exta for my gas and boxes and can try to save some people money. If you have a pool store nearby your home you can just call .

it looks like it would be too coarse from the pic but then again it's really close up and it even says it's good for rays... remind them of that in case you lose a $200 ray so they can refund you for false advertising. jk, im sure it'll be fine but i havent used the stuff.
