Little baby Fahaka just not growing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is gonna sound weird but I have actually watched my little Guy take some pretty rediculous poops on multiple occasions. Never anything white, or stringy though. If anything its a miracle this fish can pass the crap that he does. Took him a solid couple hours to pass what looked like a piece of driftwood (kidding) after hunting every snail In the tank down In one meal. I think he's healthy. Maybe ill try to deworm just in case. What meds do you recomemd and I can soak his clams and squid in it. Don't know what else to do really, and like I said I set up a expensive tank for him and he just looks out of place so small In such a huge tank even though I know he's very content.
mine is the same way big dark driftwood pieces lol his belly looks like its gonna blow:headbang2

Soaking their foods in anti parasite meds is the best bet... thats what i do... as for what meds though... that you'll have to wait for other US members to chime in for... since a lot of meds you guys get there, i can't get here and i'm sure vice versa... not that you would want to use the meds from here anyway...

I think it would be really cool to have a mini Fahaka. The only thing stopping me from getting one of these guys is tank size because I'm limited on room.

Your little guy looks great, nice coloration and patterns.

I realize Im unearthing a thread from years ago but, I too have a puffer from drs. F&S that is a mere 3.5" long with near adult coloration. When I received him he was about 1.5"-2" long and over the span of about 7 months has only grown 2". He has been in a 90g tank, 0 ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. I have an aquaponics bed that helps filter out alot as well as making monthly water changes to freshen things up. For the first 4 months before the aquaponics system, I was doing weekly 35% water changes. The growth rate did not seem to change at all since I have added the aquaponics, so I ruled that out as the cause. But who knows, he's healthy fed daily and always soak his food in vitachem, he loves shrimp, mussels, earthworms, snails and even the occasional pellets left over from my cichlids. Its not a issue for me though him being small, he seems to get along with 10 assorted peacocks and haps I have, there was an occational fin nip here and there that I assumed he was the culprit of in the beginning but, I havent seen any for the past few months. He is a very active little bugger compared to most that I see on youtube. He always seems to be scooting along in the tank blowing the sand looking for snails.

My guess it has parasites. Have you seen it poo?
