Little Stinkpot

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My parents house is across the street from the Yellow Breeches in Boiling Springs Stonecat. Pretty sure thats where he came from.

Well I was fooling around with my new digital camera today and I though I would show you how big my Musk Turtle has grown in the last 8 months since I posted the original pic.

This pic was taken April 19th, 2007 and the age of the turtle is about 5 months old. When I first got him he was a little smaller then a beer cap.

Now here are some pics to show you how much he's grown in the last 8 months. He's about 13 months or so old now. He's almost has a 3 inch shell length.

Most of my turtles are actually that size. Their common here too, I just can't find them in stores or ever find hatchlings.

that thing is super tiny !!!

Lol, he was tiny! These guys are seriously the size of a nickel when they hatch. But now all he does is eat. He's constantly begging for food and bulking up.

He shure grew!! Do they emit a smell? The name has two indicators of smelling bad in it!!

They can release a musk when scared or picked up but I've only encountered this reaction in wild animals on one rare occasion. Other then that they don’t smell at all. They just have that awful name!

I USE to have wild Pet/Semi Pets?

Stink Pots. I didn't know what they were. I was around 8 and I thought all turtles were the same. Except these were a little slim and were a DARK color. So one day netted dozens.. and dozens from the Canals.. Weird smells :3 My friends kept telling me these little guys stunk, I didn't listen. -whistles- They were all caught to be around 5" in size. Never really caught a bigger or smaller one. I guess thats Adult size?

Yep, they max out at around 4.5-5 inches. They're one of the smallest turtles in North America. Tied in size with the Spotted Turtle. The smallest species of them all would be the Bog Turtle at about 3-4 inches in length.
