little to no light plants for nitrate reducing ?

No light, no photosynthesis. Light is the energy that drives nitrate reduction. You can buy low wattage LED light and run 24 hour in the sump that you can't do if you grow plant in the tank .

Ya I grabbed a pack of 5 small under cabinet led lights each light runs on 3aaa batteries and each light has 3small led per puck. Hopefully they be enough for light for plants to sit in shower caddy to grow and help reduce nitrates

You're probably going to go through alot of batteries. Low watt LEDs don't do much for plants from my experience. A single lightbulb would probably do the trick, just like one of those bayco clamp work lights or an old school automotive trouble light on an extension cord

Yeah, you don't want to be using battery operated units for this. Unless you're getting the batteries for free, it's going to cost you a ton more in operating cost.
