Hey there (=

I don't know if this is normal.

My red bellied piranha is pooping the same amount i feed him, which is a lot.
I am feeding him twice a day with 16 pellets with the size of about 2 cm
It's like it goes right through him, and after 5 minutes or such, the aquarium is full of ****, and probably the same amount i feed him.

However when i am feeding shrimps or fishfilet, then he don't poop as much, even through it's more food.

Is this an example of overfeeding? He is about 3.1 inch
I have tried to lower the amount of pellets, which makes a huge differerent, however i am afraid of underfeeding, because he can eat 16 pellets in under 20 sec, and he seems to be more hungry.

I hope it's actually 2mm pellets and not 2cm. Red bellies have huge appetites in the way that they don't know when to stop eating, they will eat and eat and eat. You should definitely lower the number of pellets to 10 or less. Piranha can go days without food so don't worry about under feeding. Over feeding is also one of the most common killers in the aquarium. Lower the number of pellets and all will be right with your little red bellies world :)

2cm pellet is HUGE, you sure it's 2cm and not 2mm?
if you see the same amount of "poop" in just after 5 minutes those are probably not poop, your piranha might just vomit out all the pellet it ate.
and if you do go with feeding pellet, you don't need to feed a lot. pellet is like concentrated food, packs way more nutrient than real food in the same volume so you can easily over fed with pellets.

In simple terms: yes.

I would lay off the feeding for a couple of days (as already mentioned, most fish can go weeks without eating). Then stick to maybe 4-5 pellets per day, but I would also recommend to have one or two fast days each week where you don't feed at all.

Fish protein would take longer to break down as opposed to pellets that have starch/flour and other various fillers so generally flakes/pellets get broke down faster then whole fish. What size is your piranha? After sub adult stage or 5-6" metabolic rate slows down so larger less often feedings is suggested ime.

For example I feed pellets to my shoal of 6 adults 1-2x per week and fresh raw talapia 1x per week and they are some fit fish!

I only keep one, because it's a 34 gallon tank.
I bought him from a guy who did not want him, so he would be dead know.
I don't think it is such a big deal, he is not skittish a all.

He is about 3.1 inch, so no near being adult.

I've just heard that you should give what a fish can eat in a minute or two.

At that size daily feedings are fine. Just keep water in check!

I'd skip a day of feeding 1x per week just to make sure he doesn't develop fatty organs/tissue. Also high current helps increase metabolism and they love swimming in it. Try a power head, korrillia makes good ones & with that size tank 500-700gph is good.
