I used L. The lowercase L "l" just looks like the uppercase I .
Did you use a different font than Verdana(Verdana seems to be the default) in your first post? That could be the reason why, in your first post, your uppercase I's look different from mine.

Back to the topic: I've also heard of charging 3 times the price of wholesale. You should also base your prices on those of your competitors. With pets the cost of caring for them will also be a greater factor. With normal retail you mostly need to worry about costs related to the building and employees. With a pet store, besides the building and employees, you also need to consider fish food, extra electricity, extra water, water conditioners, medications, the fact that some fish will die, etc as expenses. If you have a return policy, you will also lose money that way. But on the other hand a return policy might give you more customers.

I would also like to start a pet store or other business someday. Running a pet store has more complications than normal retail though. I might just end up trying to start a different form of business.

hahahahahhaa

this reminds me of the epic "how do you make that cool backwards "b" in responce to ":b" (holy too much internet memory batman)

How do places like petsmart do their water changes? I've seen some small pet stores use pythons, but would a chain go to the trouble of syphoning each tank? Would it be some sort of automated system?

***Just so there isn't more confusion, I most have edited my previous post after chesterthehero posted. Didn't think anyone had replied yet.

the "wall-o-tanks" at chain stores are often all connected to a few sumps.. and there is usuially a flood drain and a hose tucked behind something that can either be opened or rolled out of the way..

yea working at a pet store i can help you out a bit

3X markup on all stock is standard

running everything on a central system would be easiest in the long run, large water volume, easy to do water changes
run africans, tropical, and coldwater on different systems
for fish like discus or other prized fish i would take those tanks off the system and run them on individual filtration

will chime in with other suggestions later

Yes most fish you will 3x, but some fish you can get more for and will sell like trade ins.

yea for sure depends on the demand and how much high rollers will spend ;)

trade ins usually get less than 1/3 of what they will sell for, taking the risk that the fish will kick and die and they shop ends up losing out on money

Me and BWB can be on your staff of advisors
