I've always thought it was weird that in the states your allowed to use live bait to catch fish. i live in Saskatchewan Canada, and the only live bait that is allowed is insects like worms and maggots. they even banned the use of frogs. To me it seems a bit cruel and almost cheating to throw a live minnow on a hook. but thats just my 2 cents

I'm not opposed to live, but it just freaks me out to bait something that is moving that much. I can do earthworms, but nothing like a minnow or other small fish. I use fresh dead instead.

I typically only use minnows for saltwater fishing. But why should using worms as bait be different from minnows. There both animals.

If your asking me, it has nothing to do with it being alive.. it's harder and more textural to hook a fish rather than a worm. And the flopping around the fish will do, opposed to the squirming the worm will do. So basically the worm is fleshy and you don't feel much while hooking it, and the fish well you gotta break skin and go through bone sometimes .. just freaks me out so much more.

I was just putting it out there in general. I get that its just a personal thing. I very rarely use live minnows but I do occasionaly, when you use those dead fish often ther just tossed out to suffocate so a quick puncture death in some cases may be more humane.

Hmm, I've never looked at it that way since I've always used live fish as bait ever since I was little. Fish eat fish, I'm not for or against it really, but I see where you guys are coming from. I never knew live bait was banned anywhere, haha.

^^ yeah goldfish are illegal.

i typically don't use live baits freshwater, but when i do i typically catch my own. only live bait i buy for freshwater is minnows for crappie fishing which i don't get to do very often.

salt water is a whole different story :P
