live bait use in USA

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Never new about these rules of banning live bait that must stink here anything is fair game
and by the way if u want to catch crappies or bass in the spring its mainly all live bait or few fish

thats odd because up where i live i've never had problems catching fish. You can count on atleast one northern pike anytime you go because they will bite anything. usually worms only for spring here works amazing, even just using single spinners will catch you walleye and northern pike like crazy. We dont have crappie here in saskatchewan so i've never fished for them.

I do a fair amount of pike fishing on the Norfolk Broads in the UK i use a mixture of deads, mainly herring, mackerel, sardine, lures and live baits mainly roach and rudd.
During the winter on the broads the pike can be very picky and a livebait will turn a fishes head far more than any dead or lure IMO.
In the UK there are certain rules about livebait,it must come from the venue being fished you are not allowed to catch the bait and then move to another venue without a section 30.Certain venues will not allow any livebaits mainly because venues like loch lomond have become populated by non indigenous species due to the use of live bait.
The UK is full of anti angling nutters that want livebaiting completely baned, but will wait and see if that happens I should imgine they will get there way as usual.

We have them too. Just curious, do you ice fish in England then?

Yeah they seem to get about even had a few in this country threaten anglers and trash gear.
No ice fishing in the uk,or not that i know of,The problem we have is we just dont get cold enough weather to make the ice thick enough to make it safe. Most of my winter pike fishing is from a 10ft dingy which enables you to get into the quiter area's of the broads.

When I FW fish I use lures sometimes, but usually I catch my own crayfish and they work great.. SW fishing is a whole different story I have only used lures when fishing for redfish, other then that shrimp and pin fish all day for bait.. I prefer SW fishing over FW fishing though, and any bait I use comes out of the body of water I'm fishing..

Kinda what I thought. Still 26"-28" of ice here. Pike fishing has been decent the last few weeks.

There have started to be some good synthetic baits coming out, the berklee gulp is okay, but the fishbites and their ilke are awesome! I catch more croaker on fishbites bloodworn alternative than i do on real bloodworms. For freshwater, the only bait I use is worms. There is a synthetic catfishbait that I've been experimenting with, data has not been compiled yet, but it looks promising. Everything else is artificial. Except for the sharks. I havn't gotten them to hit artificials with any degree of regularity, so I still use a big chunk of dead fish. Bluefish works the best!

Livebait is banned in the Netherlands.
I'f you get caught, you wil get a €250 fine and they take away your fishing permit for 2years.

I do fish with livebait occasionally, but only when I am far away from any roads or common fishing spots.
My friend still uses livebait everywhere he goes.

Wow, 250 Euros = about $350, That's a lot of money just for using live bait.
