live feeders for snakes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Honestly... This is not a subject you will want to bring up.
too much contoversy and the thread will get closed. so i suggest a premature close.

We fed live at the pet store I worked at, but I always watched very closely until the snake had the mouse under control where the mouse could not hurt the snake. If it were my own snake though, I'd probably just feed frozen as it would be easier to buy in bulk and store the feeders.

just out of curiosity i want to see other peoples views on live feeding.
btw eventhough my mams got a rabbit i dont mind live feeding (probably because the rabbit bites and scratches, iv got cuts all over my hand and arm).

I have 6 King's .
I would never feed live as simply no need for that.

Why risk the snake getting bit infected-maybe lose an eye ,etc .

Why have the mammal suffer .

You can see the rabbit was scared . However not to be a hypocrite I realize my frozen mice didn't die of old age lol they were killed for me .

I buy my stuff frozen thaw it out before use and whamo that easy. Don't see any reason for live .

There are snakes that have lots of trouble accepting anything but Live prey.

Lol oh I know I have an Arizona that will only take hoppers I have to tie string to hoppers tail and wiggle it in front of her .

She will than hit it and I tug it slightly the string come's off . After a yr still won't take it unless I move it for few minutes . Went from pinkies to fuzzies now hoppers all using string method.

If had same problem with a mouse eater and string tactic didnt work would ofcourse feed live but if have the option avoid live.

I can't find live hoppers in South Florida so thankfull the string method works .

well its also part of their nature to hunt, and if you're the kind of guy that cries about this kind of thing than obviously don't live feed lol... But i have also heard many stories about the snake dieing because of the live prey, in my opinion its not worth it to risk the snakes life on live feeding, especially if it is just for you're entertainment.

If the snake dies because of life feeding, it's the fault of the owner. Obviously there are potential risks involved when putting and animal like a rat in a box with a snake that can't escape. All life feedings should be monitored by the owner until the snake has done the deed.

The same goes for crickets or various types of worms. If left in a cage with a reptile, they possess the ability to kill and eat the reptile.
