Come too think of it, i won't name anyone cause this guy i know and sometimes fish with does similar.. I haven't seen him do it but he is even worse.. He Slaps a hook through the rear legs of those big rats that people carry on their shoulders and cast it out into the lake!! I don't know but he says it good fishin.. Doubt i'll ever try it, as i believe in karma!! And i wouldn't want to drown or get eatin while doing so..
live feeding

I am good on the nature thing, but if you (not you) are doing it for entertainment with the intent or torture then thats wrong.
i'm all for live feeding something that the animal would naturaly encounter. Feeding a fish a kitten, is totaly wierd and pretty much sick. Feeding a fish a pinky mice is pretty sad, but i'm not against it. If i were to feed a pinky to my fish, I would make sure it was dead already.
im not against feeding them live stuff at all . i had pirahnas and fed them gold fish , but i knew they would be eaten before they knew it ,
i was neutral about live feeding and was concidering feeding my snake the odd live mouce , but after seeing that vid i just couldnt do it now as i can see how they would suffer even as i know that is natural for the to kill mice.
im not having a go at people who feed live anything ( like fish and frogs has that is natural for your preditors to chatch things like that, i just cant see oscars ever coming across a pinky in nature, but if you had to feed them a pinky which they play around with for 10 mins before its eaten why not just feed an already dead one ,

I dont have much of a problem with it as long as it is done in a humane way. I mean dont throw a fish to an oscar in small bare tank where it has no chance of getting away. At least give it some chance of surviving.
If we keep our meat eating fish in our homes as our pets, Then deprive them of what they used to thrive on in the wild ,That might be kinda mean. Certain people have sympathy for mice etc. but not for crickets.This matter is up to the person. If your motive is not feeding your fish, But to use him as a weapon to kill stupid little critters ,well you might be a jerk.
The goal of most aquarists when keeping a tank (IMO) is to keep it natural. This is quite hypocritical if you look at the way we keep them. Nothing about an aquarium is natural. From the carbon in the filtration, the substrate that is most often painted, the artificial lighting, the chemical dechlorinator, and even if you use none of these glass walls that keep them from freedom... not natural. So as far as not feeding your fish a pinky because its not 'natural', I don't necessarily agree with. To each is their own. However, the inhumane death of the pinky is something that should be reconciled. Oh and feeding a live kitten is just plain sick.
PS I have seen a vid of a full grown Oscar being fed to about 25 full grown pirhanas.
