Has anyone ever rescued a live fish from a live fish market in chinatown? I was there last night and they had some massive tilapia. I bought one with request to keep it in water, sadly didnt get the water in quick enough and it died after 12 hrs.

I have bought a few fish from Chinatown...had a rough time trying to explain to the fishmonger that I wanted the fish alive but I got it in the end lol...Another time I was in the area and I happened to stop by a few stores and some of them had tanks full of live barramundi.

They have to kill the fish first........Rule goes for the bull frogs too..........

Hmm could be a local ordinance which varies by city. That sure never came up when I bought mine in this town.

Yeah the guy barely spoke english

see well.. they were meant to eat...
plus i'm glad they have that kill the stock on sight law because it stops the "idiot" who wants to rescue and release them (Tilapia+bullfrogs)

I've never rescued a fish from there but when I was younger, we would always go to visit my grandma and my brother and I would always beg my parents to buy us a frog or turtle that they would have there. So pretty much, every month, we'd have a new bullfrog, soft shell turtle or red eared slider for our backyard.

Depends on which Chinatown, they are required to kill the live fish before it leaves the store. I've seen few live Asian carps and there are some reports of live snakeheads/clarias/swamp eels being sold in Chinatown. But they are perfect place to get some American eels.

Yup lot of invasive fishes are popular foods in Chinatown.

...and we do see and know that they are meant to be eaten. One little clue is that they are sold in food markets.I can't speak for those who might release the fish in local waters,I am not one of them.Like I said,I was not made aware of any laws that might exist when I bought my fish...
