Live fish chinatown

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have found that most of the places in Chinatown are more likely to bend the rules for a fellow Asian than a white guy. I tried to get a love American eel from a place once and had no luck. A week later I went to the same place with a chinese friend and they packed one right up. Sadly it wasnt in great condition and died shortly after

I can see that being the case a lot of times...A few times I have wandered into some of those places and tried to ask an employee about their merchandise and I pretty much got the cold shoulder or flat out silent treatment lol.

those non native fish that they sell at Asian market was illegal to keep at many states. Most of the time they have to kill the fish before you can bring it out of the door, but sometime I found that the people who work there can sneak them out alive.

I rescued quite a few. Pan fried, deep fried with sweet and sour sauce, braised with a spicy black bean sauce; and my person favorite: steamed with a drizzle of heated oil over cilantro...

They have to kill the fish first........Rule goes for the bull frogs too..........

Nope, my aunt bought a bunch of live bull frogs from an Asian market for Cal State LA because their orders were messed up and they were in a rush and needed them for a biology class.

I did see some Korean Loaches at the store near my house but at $17 a pound plus they were packed in a styrofoam box with water I didn't want to risk buying them just for them to die at home.

Looks similar to these ones from a pic I got off the net.
