Live food?! Too Much?

If it were me, I would feed my fish less goldfish. Also not all bugs are good for fishes. Btw feeding live foods to African cichlids isn't good idea and you don't need to feed your cichlids feeder fishes.

That said, it's better to get the fishes varied diet, live, frozen or prepared foods than just live foods...you will never know when your lfs will no longer to stock the feeders one day...had this problem when there is a shortage of feeders in my lfs last year and my lfs only ordered tiny danios and mountain minnows...same size as newborn guppy fry.

thnkas everyone for the feed back..saving up money for a 5 gallon tank to quaritine the feeders before i feed them to my fish and will explain to my little cosuins bout the bug issues and bacteria...and did some researc betta's are very sensitive to bacteria disease they can be easyily expaosed by it so im stoppong the betta feeding just worms and guppies.. abiut every other 2 weeks.

I have fed my fish hundreds if not thousands of bugs including crickets, centipedes, june bugs, worms, moths, and just about anything else I can find in the yard and house for years and have never had a problem. On the other hand I have had 2 mass die offs after I have fed them feeder goldfish from the store so I have stopped that. If they are into raising fish try getting them onto cons or mollies. This way you can have a supply of clean feeders, and they can feel like they are helping you. This would be a win for everyone and save you some cash.

As I said before, not all insects are good for fish....some worms such as red wigglers may not good for some fishes. I had some fish that rejected red wigglers but have no problems with accepting nightcrawlers. Same with centipedes, my fish won't touch them.

What kind of fish are centipedes or red wigglers bad for? I have fed them to my native fish when I had them going and now RBP with no problem. I do not doubt you, more just curious how this could be bad. There are several keepers who are adamant about worm bins to raise wigglers for their fish, and I would be one of them if it were not for the wife thinking it is “gross.” About the only ones I know of would be mumba due to their digestive tract.

All natives (sunfish, walleye, bass, perch, bowfin and bullhead) as well as tropical catfish and cichlids, they spit the red wigglers and centipedes out but readily accepted nightcrawlers. Lady beetles, milkweed bugs, ticks and slugs are the ones that my fishes won't touch. If you have fishes that is eating red crawlers or centipedes or any distasteful insects, they are usually starving.

Red wigglers r a fine fish food. The discus my father used to breed on a mass scale only got wigglers and home made high protein fishnfood.

I went to research on the red wigglers and it appeared that there are different species of red wigglers, some of them are known for have foul taste and are not suitable food for fishes and other animals. No wondered why the red wigglers are fell out of the popular baits in my area and they smells terrible! Eisenia fetida is the one species of red wigglers that my fish won't touch.
