Artificial live rock it says...it's resin/plastic. it's decor, if you like it then go for it, not gonna hurt nor help anything.

You are mistaken. I have live rocks that save me about $50.00 a month, in my fresh. This is due to the fact that most live rock is long dead coral, so it boost my gH & kH. Since I use only R/O water my gH and kH are almost 0 which leads to the pH swings. I was spending 10 or more a week on buying R/O right to increase gH. So live rock can help, as a matter of fact anytime anyone has low pH its suggested you use crush coral
 
I wouldn't say I'm mistaken. I'm quite aware of using CaCo3 to buffer very soft water. This does not necessarily have to come from a sterilized piece of live rock. As you said, crushed coral or crushed shells can be used to buffer the water. If you were to simply take a piece of SW LIVE rock (not just calcium carbonate base rock like you use to buffer your water that may have at one time been live) and throw it in a freshwater tank, you'd have a pretty good mess going. It seems that a lot of people miss the distinction between rocks meant to be used in marine settings and those that are actually colonized and lump it all together as "live rock" regardless of there being anything live about it
